Cindy Gordon
CEO and Founder, Helix Commerce International Inc.
Cindy M. Gordon is a seasoned senior executive with over twenty years of industry experience in communications & high tech and financial services. Cindy is currently the Founder and CEO of Helix Commerce International Inc, a company specializing in business innovation and growth acceleration strategies that leverages disruptive innovation and next generation internet business approaches.
Helix clients include companies like: Amdocs, Astra Zeneca, Bell Canada, CIBC, Microsoft, MTS Allstream, RIM, Royal Bank of Canada, Rogers, SAP, Siemens, TD, and Xerox and not for profit organizations like: Canadian Cancer Society, George Brown College and World Vision.
Her company has partnered with strategy firms specializing in Disruptive Innovation practices, including Clayton Christensen’s firm, Innosight, and Cognitive Edge, advanced experts in identifying disruptive innovation methods to accelerate growth. In addition, they have partnered with Igloo, IBM, and Microsoft solutions to develop customized applications to support organization’s requirements for innovative web based portals or Web 2.0 solutions.
Helix specializes in helping companies innovate more rapidly by identifying new market growth opportunities, and support go to market execution (Pre Sales to post Sales) practices. Helix also uses advanced forms of growth and innovation acceleration practices and toolkits to support practice areas such as: Mergers and Acquisition support (pre and post); strategic planning, transformational change, on demand market stimulation programs, collaboration commerce and knowledge innovation capabilities, etc. Helix is known for its ability to wrap its arms around complex transformational programs and develop focused execution programs to drive the results company’s are striving to realize.
Dr. Gordon is also the Founder of Helix Virtual Worlds (www.helixvirtualworlds.com) company specializing in Virtual World MetaVerses. Although in an early stage of market growth, Helix Virtual Worlds has already invested in a virtual world conference center to support client needs to experiment and learn how to interact business in a virtual metaverse.
Prior to founding Helix, Ms. Gordon was a Partner with XDL Intervest, a Tier One Venture Capital Firm. At XDL Intervest, she was responsible for helping early stage eCommerce on- demand business models (B2B, B2C) secure venture financings. Companies she held board Director positions included: CompanyDNA sold to Panorama Software after a successful financing of over $15M in a Series B round to Got Marketing, the leader small business email marketing automation campaign software solution in North America, and powered by Yahoo, and with Novator Systems (an online retail innovation firm).
Prior to XDL Intervest, she held senior partner roles with Accenture. Cindy was a Global Practice Leader in their eCommerce, CRM, and Knowledge Management Practice, and was also the Practice Partner for Accenture’s change and strategy LOB for the communications and high-tech sectors for the North East for the North America practice.
Prior senior executive roles included: Senior Director and General Manager for Xerox Outsourcing and Professional Services. Other roles she held at Xerox included: Director of Sales and Marketing, Director of Total Quality and Director of Business Productivity. Throughout her eight year tenure with Xerox, Cindy was involved in large scale business transformation and new start up business operations: including professional services, outsourcing services, leading the strategy for consolidating all call center operations which led to a North America call center operation consolidating all telemarketing, customer services support, and billing support. Cindy has been recognized with the coveted President’s Club Award for her global leadership contributions at Xerox. She also served for two years as Xerox’s President for the Women’s Alliance, an international network of Women focused on Diversity in the Workplace.
In addition to these roles, she was also a Senior Group Director of Global Information Systems Strategies for Nortel Networks and an Assistant Vice President to Citicorp’s Investment and Corporate Finance Banking operations, where she was responsible for their client facing information system solutions and help-desk operations, and enterprise risk management practices.
Prior to her Fortune 500 company experience, Cindy was an entrepreneur. She helped grow Trigon Systems Group from a team of 6 to a team of 140 consultants where the firm was successfully merged with DMR and Associates. Prior to Trigon, Cindy was a Founding Partner of InfoTech Consultants a company that specialized in business strategies applying emerging new technology capabilities to help companies apply disruptive innovation models.
Ms. Gordon is a frequently published author of numerous publications on the new economy, knowledge management and eCommerce. She has written or contributed to nine published books: "Chief Knowledge Officers in the New eEconomy”, “Knowledge: The Great Business Challenge,” Negócio Editora, "Knowledge Management: Classic and Contemporary Works”, Realizing the Promise of Corporate Portals and her prior best seller on Amazon Winning at Collaboration Commerce: The Next Competitive Advantage was released in 2006. Why Buy The Cow? was released in 2007 looks at the impact of on demand business models in revolutionizing how work is done. Her most recent books are: The Handbook of Technology Management on the Future of Web 2.0, a three volume gold series by Jossey Bass on Technology Innovation(s) (May, 2010). The Socialization of Knowledge will be released in the fall of (2010) and she has two more books on Innovation and Virtualization hitting the market in early 2011.
Ms. Gordon is/or has been a board director / advisor to numerous high technology software web based companies. Select companies profiled include: Allaris, Bubble Labs (sold to Kaboose), CompanyDNA, Corent Technology, CQUAY, Eloqua, Got Marketing, Kamoon, Medworxx, Mongoose Technologies, Pinpoint Selling, QuickPlay Media, SnipeNetworks; Software Growth Fund, Talcura, TouchTown, True Context, and View22.
She is also the Founder and Past Chair of the CEO Fusion Center helping early stage technology CEO’s mentor each other for growth sustainability. She is also currently a Director for CATA for the National Board and is the National Chair of the CATA Women in Technology Forum (WIT) the Canadian organization. She is actively involved in CATA’s Innovation as a Nation Platform initiatives.
Her not for profit board past board experiences include: Executive Director, Canadian Stage, Director, The Learning Partnership, President, Toastmasters, Executive Director, Strategic Leadership Forum, University of Toronto, Rotman Business School MBA Mentoring Program (5 years as an MBA Mentor to students), President of Xerox, Womens’ Alliance, Director, CIPS, Director EDI Council Network, Director United Way Corporate Fundraising, Chair and Director, First Tuesday. She is very involved in Fighting Breast Cancer, and regularly participates in major fund raising events supporting research. She annually walks the two day End Breast Cancer Walk, supported by Princess Margaret Hospital.
She has been recognized as one the ENTOVATION 100, which has been identified as one of the top 100 innovation and knowledge management experts globally. Cindy also actively participates in international conferences and leadership think-tanks to promote innovation and growth opportunities globally. Cindy is also recognized by the University of Western Business School for her business, community and board leadership in their new book on Women in the Lead. 300 senior executive women were profiled in Canada after a rigorous selection process to identify the top Canadian women eligible for Corporate Board Roles in Publicly Traded Companies. Cindy is a former member of the International Women’s President’s Association (WPO).
Academically, she holds a Doctorate in Innovation, eCommerce, and Knowledge Management from the University of Toronto, and a Masters of Information and Business Management, Bachelor of Administration; and a Bachelor of Education (certified educator), from the University of Alberta.
Cindy is married and has two children. In her spare time, she enjoys playing classical piano, and is an active sports enthusiast: golfing, squash, scuba diving, skiing, spas, swimming, tennis, weightlifting, and walking.
