Key Strengths Women Need to Have to Advance Their Careers

Join us for our season opening networking event featuring a discussion with three of Ottawa's top female executives on the key strengths women need to exhibit in order to advance their careers.

Meet our panelists:

Gail Di Cintio is Vice-President Operations with Larus Technologies, an Ottawa-based software engineering company specializing in sensor network solutions. Previous to this, Ms. Di Cintio was Vice President Human Resource Development at Fujitsu and part of the Fujitsu Management Consulting Practice. She has also been a Management and Technology consultant with Deloitte Consulting, working with a variety of private, para-public and public sector clients. Ms. Di Cintio has been involved as a Board Director with Alterna Savings and Alterna Bank since 2003, and was the Chair of the Human Resources Committee. She has been a Board Member with Hospitals in Ottawa from 1995-2001. Ms. Di Cintio is a Certified Management Consultant who has been involved as a session instructor for the Management Development Program for Women at Carleton University since 1999 and has participated in the annual YWCA Women of Distinction Award since 2000.

Sheridan Scott is Canada's Commissioner of Competition. In addition to her domestic responsibilities as head of the Canadian Competition Bureau, Ms. Scott leads the Bureau's participation in international fora such as the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the International Competition Network (ICN) to develop and promote coordinated competition laws and policies in an increasingly globalized marketplace. Commissioner Scott has been elected Chair of the ICN Steering Group, assuming this leadership role in February 2007. Before joining the Competition Bureau in January 2004, Ms. Scott was Chief Regulatory Officer of Bell Canada. She has also worked with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and the CRTC where she was responsible for affiliate relations, regulatory matters, resource planning and audience research. Ms. Scott has been actively involved in a number of professional and community organizations such as Canadian Women in Communications, Maestro's Circle of Opera Lyra Ottawa, Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund, Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA) and the Leadership Giving Committee of the United Way. The Women's Executive Network (WXN) named Ms. Scott one of Canada's 100 Most Powerful Women in 2005 for the Trailblazer category. She also received a Distinguished Alumni Award in 2005 from the University of Victoria, where an entrance scholarship has been established in her name.

Janet Yale is Executive Vice-President, Corporate Affairs, for TELUS Communication Company. Prior to joining TELUS, Ms. Yale was President of the Canadian Cable Television Association. With more than 20 years of government and regulatory experience, Ms. Yale has held senior leadership positions at AT&T Canada, the CRTC and the Consumer's Association of Canada. As an active member of the Ottawa community, she is a member of the Board of the Great Canadian Theatre Company, the Information Technology Association of Canada, the Council for Business and the Arts in Canada, the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation and the Canadian Film Centre. She is also the Past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Ottawa United Way/Centraide and Chair of the National Arts Centre Gala. Ms. Yale was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002. In 2001, the Canadian Women in Communications Organization named her "Woman of the Year" and, beginning in 2004, the Women's Executive Network named Ms. Yale one of Canada's Most Powerful Women - Top 100, for three years in a row. Women’s Business Network named Ms. Yale Business Woman of the Year (corporate) in 2005 and Federated Press named her Woman Leader of the Year in 2006.
