Julie Richards
Julie Richards is the Group Director, Standards at Canada Health Infoway. In this role she leads the new Infoway Standards Collaborative function and has responsibility to deliver on the strategy for health information standards development, implementation, conformance, maintenance and governance for the electronic health record across Canada. Prior to this, Julie was a Director of Standards at Infoway with responsibilities for Infoway's terminology standards investments.
Julie has over 20 years of experience in health care including bio-mineralization research, laboratory information systems and health information standards. Julie was the manager of Standards Development Co-ordination at the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) and was the project manager for the implementation of ICD-10-CA and CCI across Canada (national standards for diagnoses and interventions). She was also the Data Quality Manager for CIHI's national data holdings. As former Systems and Patient Services Manager at Mount Sinai Hospital, Julie managed the selection and implementation of the Laboratory Information System.
Julie obtained her Master of Health Administration at the University of Toronto as well as her BSc in Geology and Computer Science. She also has a Diploma in Electron Microscopy from the Canadian Society of Laboratory Technologists.
Julie is a Canadian delegate to the International Standards Organization Technical Committee on Health Informatics and an elected member of the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organization's Quality Assurance Committee. Julie has held numerous executive positions on Boards including the South Riverdale Community Health Centre, the Ralph Thornton Centre, City of Toronto, the Hart House Underwater Club, University of Toronto and was the first elected female Flag Officer as the Senior Vice Commodore of the Ashbridges Bay Yacht Club. Julie and Tim, her husband of 23 years, are certified scuba instructors and sailors with a goal to sail around the world.
