Ottawa Chapter-Speaking To Be Heard:
Communications Strategies for Women in Technology
June 15, 2006

OTTAWA, June 15, 2006- The CATA WIT (Women in Technology) Forum is hosting "Speaking To Be Heard: Communications Strategies for Women in Technology", a professional development event, the next in the "Steps to Success for Women in Technology" series on June 22nd. The interactive panel discussion will address the different communication styles of men & women and how these differences affect the workplace.

As women play a more integral role within the workplace, particularly the technology sector, are the varying communication styles of men and women becoming more and more relevant? Do men and women communicate differently? If so, do these differences affect women's ability to advance in the technology industry? Some research indicates that men and women are socialized differently; does this result in diverse styles of interacting, negotiating or handling conflict?

A panel of accomplished individuals will share their insights on the communication styles of men and women and discuss the impact of these styles in the workplace. Attendees, both men and women, will walk away with tips and advice on how to communicate more effectively with the other gender. The participants will also have an opportunity to discuss their own ideas, contribute to the discussion, and ask questions.

Cristi Cooke, Founder, Majority Marketing
Hans Ruprecht, Professor, Carleton University
