- Kauffman study on women in VentureCapital The Kauffman Foundation today will release a report on the participation of women in the venture capital market. The study is part of something called The Diana Project, and concluded that women are underrepresented both within VC firms and in terms of receiving VC funding for theircompanies. No huge news flash there, but some of the specifics are a few percentage points beyond disheartening. For example, Kauffman found that women represented only 10% of management-track VC positions in 1995, and that the figure fell to 9% in 2000. It also found that 64% of women inthe VC industry during 1995 had dropped out by 2000, compared to just 33% of males. It is important to note that the study only examines the years 1995-2000, which means that the past three years of market contraction are not accounted for. Researchers included academics from Harvard, Indiana University, Babson College, Boston University and the University of St. Thomas.
